How Critics Reviewed the Original Macintosh in 1984
via DF:
The nature of the personal computer is simply not fully understood by companies like Apple (or anyone else for that matter). Apple makes the arrogant assumption of thinking that it knows what you want and need. It, unfortunately, leaves the “why” out of the equation — as in “why would I want this?” The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a “mouse”. There is no evidence that people want to use these things. I don’t want one of these new fangled devices.

Actually, I love it when others make design decisions for me—as long as those designers’ tastes align with my own. Microsoft’s products have no coherent design, so the company instead pushes “choice”, as if that’s a substitute for a lack of commitment to any single vision.
Your Post Box Is Too Small
Adam Mathes compares “new entry” UIs on blogging services.
I recently tried the latest versions of modern blogging tools for some projects I was toying with and was appalled.
The primary purpose of blogging software is to blog.
This entails the writing and publishing of short form content.
Everything else is, basically, noise. Even if you don’t subscribe to a viewpoint that harsh, posting something should be the primary action of the software and treated as such.
This appears to be a radical notion, given their interfaces.

SoundCloud changes the “Save” button to a countdown whenever you’re uploading tracks so you don’t click before it’s ready. Simple, intuitive, and helpful.

Dear Apple: Please Move the Search Bar in iTunes
Dear Apple: Please move the search bar in iTunes from the top-right corner to the top-left corner, right above “Library”. These two pieces work together and couldn’t be farther apart on the screen.
How many times has this happened to you? You click in the search bar, type something, see no results, then realize it’s becuase you’re searching your music library instead of the Store, or vice-versa. Move over, change your search target, then back to the search bar. Annoying.
