The Music Industry's $2 Million Can of Worms

The US$1.92 million verdict against a Minnesota woman accused of sharing 24 songs over the Internet could ratchet up the pressure on other defendants to settle with the recording industry—if the big fine can withstand an appeal.

The RIAA has stated publicly that they are no longer pursuing these types of cases, but the fact that they haven’t dropped this one speaks volumes. They are, as Matt says, still beating the ocean with a stick. The internet is here, Virgin Megastore is gone, and all the RIAA can do is cry, “Go away!”.
