WatchWatch
pablog: I’ve long believed that this is a thing that needs to happen way more often with singers. In fact, I’d pay to watch an entire feature film, spanning all kinds of musicians and all kinds of karaoke bars, premised on this very idea. (Would Ke$ha impress no one? Would Bonnie Tyler reduce people to tears? Justin Timberlake? Dr. Dre?!) It’d be Joshua Bell on steroids. Relatedly: if anyone is...

LESS, a CSS App for Mac OS X →
LESS is an app that lets you write CSS using variables, nested rules, and operations that simplify your code, then compiles it into plain-old CSS. Uses existing CSS syntax but adds functions you always wish were there.  Can’t wait to work with it. [via]

My Starred Posts →
If you want to check out random articles I find most interesting, I’ve routed my Instapaper starred posts feed through Google Reader so they can be presented for public consumption.  There’s also a link to it in my sidebar. Instapaper is sort of like DVR for the Web. It’s a simple web tool that lets you mark a website to “read later” using a bookmarklet in your...

Bad Astronomy on NASA's budget →
mrgan: The general public public perception of NASA is that it’s an inefficient, unnecessary drain on the US budget. How bad a drain? Bad Astronomy quotes The Space Review: In a just-completed study, we asked respondents what percentage of the national budget is allocated to NASA … NASA’s allocation, on average, was estimated to be approximately 24% of the national budget (the NASA allocation in...

hypem: Some great music blogs use Tumblr as their platform, and we aggregate those in The Hype Machine. hypem: SoundCloud’s Alex talks about our beautiful new partnership. Hype Machine now scoops up embedded SoundCloud tracks (not just linked MP3s) from blogs and serves them up using the SoundCloud streamer. This keeps all the stats in one place and moves that playback bandwidth over to SoundCloud.  Read more.

YouTube Now Testing HTML5 as Alternative to Flash →
Gruber: Sign up for the beta on this page, and boom, you get videos using H.264 and the HTML5 video tag instead of Flash. Working great for me. Note, though, that it only applies to videos on youtube.com itself — YouTube videos embedded in web pages on other sites still use Flash. So far things are loading and playing much smoother compared to Flash.

The (App) World According To Verizon
This is what I refer to when people (read: random tech bloggers) stop using an iPhone because of their objections to the App Store.  Yes, it’s closed and has a fundamentally faulty review system—which prevents timely acceptance of not just new apps but revisions and bug fixes as well)—but: this is what the world looked like before it arrived. via Wikipedia: Get it now, VCast,...

Major Lazer vs. Olive
[Note: this post contains content that does not display properly or at all in the Tumblr dashboard.] Just heard “Keep It Goin’ Louder” by Major Lazer (2009), and the chord progression reminded me of “You’re Not Alone” by Olive (1996), a high school favorite of mine.
